Metallurgy Combustion Analysis Services

The most accurate way to find out the amount of carbon and sulfur in your sample is through combustion analysis, also known as combustion LECO analysis reflecting the equipment used for the test. Our carbon/sulfur equipment measures gases emitted during combustion to quantify the specific amount of carbon and sulfur in your sample. Metallurgy combustion testing is completed in accordance with common international standards such as ASTM E1019 and is reported to be fractions of a weight percent.

What is Carbon/Sulfur Analysis?

Carbon/Sulfur Analysis is a specialized technique used to determine the concentration of carbon and sulfur in various substances. Also known as combustion analysis or LECO analysis reflecting the testing equipment, this test measures the amount of carbon and sulfur content, which provides valuable information about the quality, purity, and composition of the sample or part. Metallurgy combustion testing is completed in accordance with common international standards such as ASTM E1019 and is reported to be fractions of a weight percent.

How is Carbon/Sulfur Analysis Performed?

In carbon analysis, a sample is combusted in a controlled environment, converting the carbon content into carbon dioxide (CO2) gas. The CO2 gas is then measured using techniques such as infrared absorption or gas chromatography. Alternatively, sulfur analysis typically involves combustion of the sample, followed by the conversion of sulfur into sulfur dioxide (SO2) gas. The SO2 gas can be measured using various detection methods, such as ultraviolet fluorescence or infrared spectroscopy.

Carbon/Sulfur analysis is a precise and reliable method for determining the carbon and sulfur content in a wide range of materials, enabling manufacturers and material providors to monitor and control the composition of their products to meet quality standards and regulatory requirements.
